A long paulownia dough bowl with a scalloped edge — the detail that separates it from a plain carved bowl. Hand-finished, lightweight, and made to run down the centre of a table.

The Design

The scalloped rim is cut by hand, so the wave is slightly irregular around the bowl. It catches light along the edge and gives the piece more presence than a straight-sided bowl at the same size.

• Hand-carved paulownia wood — lightweight, with pronounced natural grain
• Five stains: Unfinished, Black, Weathered Grey, Antique White, or Mahogany
• Other stain colours available on request — just ask before ordering

Want to Serve Food From It?

As supplied, this is a display piece rather than a food vessel. But we can finish it with pure tung or mineral oil to make it food-safe — just ask when you order. There's no extra charge, we simply need to know before we finish the bowl.

Otherwise, use a liner or smaller dishes inside it for fruit, bread, or serving.

Uses

Dining tables, kitchen islands, consoles, and coffee tables. Good for seasonal displays, fruit, collected objects, or left empty as a sculptural piece.

Care

• Dust with a soft dry cloth
• If finished with oil, reapply pure tung or mineral oil occasionally to stop the wood drying or cracking
• Indoor use only
• Keep away from excessive moisture and direct heat
• Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade the stain
• Not waterproof — don't soak or put it in a dishwasher

Handmade Variation

Every bowl is hand-carved from solid wood, so dimensions vary slightly and each carries its own grain, tool marks, and small irregularities. The scallop pattern varies too. Yours will not be identical to the photograph.

If Something Arrives Damaged

Email wendy@rootsofearthco.com within 48 hours with photographs of the piece and the packaging, and keep the box. Shipments are insured and we will make it right.

Returns

Each bowl is made to order, so we don't accept returns or exchanges. If anything is wrong with your order, contact us — we would always rather fix it than leave you unhappy.
